8. JOHAN EBERHARD8 REAM (HANS ANDREAS7, ANDREAS6, GEORG5 RIEM, NICOL4, ANDRES3, GEORG2, EVERHART1) was born October 6, 1687 in Leimen, Heidelberg, Baden, Germany, and died August 22, 1779 in Muddy Creek, Cocalico Twp, Lancaster Co., PA (very first settlers in Twp and Co). He married ANNA ELIZABETH SCHWAB April 7, 1712 in Leimen, Heidelberg, Baden, Germany, daughter of JOST SCHWAB and ANNA WOLFHARTEN. She was born October 10, 1692 in Duhren, Heidelberg, Baden, Germany, and died March 4, 1761 in Muddy Creek, Cocalico Twp, Lancaster Co., PA.
Notes for JOHAN EBERHARD REAM:
The Ream family emigrated from Germany to Pennsylvania 30 years earlier in the 18th century than the Hetzlers around 1717. They were the very first settlers in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster County, PA. Johann Eberhardt was a farmer who lived to see the country a wilderness when they settled in Cocalico Twp. develop into a civilized community. Twelve years after arriving in America, he was naturalized a citizen of Great Britain, October 4, 1729. He was prominent in his day among the Pioneers of Cocalico Township. In religion, he was so stanch in his stand for the Reformed Church in the controversies of the mid-century that he "was much hated, and left dreadful records, amongst Moravians". Mr. H. E. Reem published in 1933 a history entitled "Christ Reformed Church". In this writing of the Centerville-Milton Grove Church he has this to say, which gives an insight into the service of Eberhardt Ream in a cause which he no doubt firmly to be right:
"From records at hand we find that Eberhardt Rhiem father of the Ream clan of America, who settled in Lancaster County during 1717, took an active part between the years 1745 and 1755 against the movement known as "Congregation of God in the Spirit", and by his stand much of the Reformed Church property in this section of the state was saved. One of the properties the Reformed Church lost was a Centerville, now Milton Grove. The year 1745 marked the beginning of much contention in the Lutheran, Reformed, and Moravian churches, not only here, but throughout the country. Eberhardt at this time (1745) had extensive holdings in the section of what is now Reamstown, Lancaster County, and was one of the supporters in that section. Learning of the difficulties of the Centerville Church, he came in person, and provided a place where worship could be held. There is a possibility that some of his children then had holdings close to this church, as a few years later (1789) the Reams purchased some 400 acres at what is Reems today."

Generation No. 10
10. ABRAHAM10 REAM (NICHOLAS9, JOHAN EBERHARD8, HANS ANDREAS7, ANDREAS6, GEORG5 RIEM, NICOL4, ANDRES3, GEORG2, EVERHART1) was born August 24, 1749 in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster County, PA, and died August 1817 in Haines Twp., Center County, PA. He married (1) ELIZABETH NEIDIG September 14, 1767 in Muddy Creek Reformed Church, Lancaster County, PA, daughter of ADAM NEIDIG and DOROTHEA FICHTNER. She was born 1746 in Allegheny Church, BerksCounty , PA, and died Abt. 1790 in Centre County, PA. He married (2) MAGDALENA MARK 1794. She was born 1747, and died 1824 in Centre Co., PA.
Notes for ABRAHAM REAM:
Abraham Ream was born in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster County, PA and spent the earlier years of his life there. The location of his boyhood home is only four or five miles from the Berks Co. line. Elizabeth Neidig's family lived in Berks Co., but probably very near the county line. So that the two young people lived in nearby communities, if not what was considered in those days the same community.
Sometime between 1785 and 1788, Abraham Ream moved to Penns Valley, Northumberland Co., in a part that in 1800 was placed in Centre Co. As Balser Hetzler and his family moved at the same time, it would be interesting to know if they migrated together, and if young George Hetzler knew Catherine Ream before the migration. In fact, it is possible they were married before the move to Penns Valley, because they were married about 1788, but this we do not know.
Adam Ream was a man of extensive Activities. He and a number of other Reams were soldiers in the Revolution. His will was probated August 15, 1817. Adam had eight children with Elizabeth and remarried and had another seven children with his wife Magdalena. He had fifteen children.

Generation No. 11
11. ANNA CATHERINE11 REAM (ABRAHAM10, NICHOLAS9, JOHAN EBERHARD8, HANS ANDREAS7, ANDREAS6, GEORG5 RIEM, NICOL4, ANDRES3, GEORG2, EVERHART1) was born November 11, 1769 in Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., PA, and died October 21, 1840 in Browns Run, Montgomery Co., OH buried in Judy Cemetery.. She married GEORGE HETZLER 1788 in Haines Twp. Northumberland, PA, son of JOHAN HETZLER and ANNA DOHM. He was born November 28, 1765 in Lancaster Co., PA, and died May 30, 1860 in Browns Run, Montgomery Co., OH buried in Judy Cemetery..
Notes for GEORGE HETZLER:
No doubt there were letters from brother Jacob to George telling of the opportunity to get fine cheap land out in Ohio. Records of the sale of public land show that George Hetzler bought a half-section of land in German Township, Montgomery Co., on the banks of Big Twin Creek, in 1805. This leads us to believe that he made the journey ont on horseback, perhaps with a number of companions, saw the loveliness of this virgin country, and determined to bring his family out. They did not migrate until later, the reason for this delay we do not know.
George and Catherine migrated from Pennsylvania to a pioneer home on Browns Run in 1814. Today it is still a rural district four or five miles Southwest of Germantown, Montgomery County, Ohio. The district is along the Butler County line. Their home was in Penns Valley for about twenty five years before their migration to Ohio, and in Penns Valley all their fifteen children were born.
They became the Founders of the Browns Run branch of the family. George was a large landowner on Browns Run, a religious and moral leader of note- associated with the founders of the United Brethren Church and was a member of United Brethren Church but was Lutheran in PA. He opened his house for the Preaching of Christ. Circuit preaching was continued at his house for a number of years. Nineteen United Brethren Church camp meetings were held on his land for the better part of a generation.
His great-granddaughter, Sarah Hetzler Harris, who was eighteen at the time of his death, described him of not very large stature, active, and shortly before his death enjoying inspecting the land, walking through the fields, climbing the fences. She remembered that he spoke German much more easily than English. Yet she nor any of George Hetzler's great-grandchildren spoke German.
He was sturdy into his old age and lived to ninety-five years. He was at his death the father of fifteen children, eighty-nine grandchildren, and seventy-six great-grandchildren.

Notes for GEORGE HETZLER, JR.:
George Jr. grew up in Penns Valley, Centre County, PA. He helped his parents move to Ohio in 1814. Approximately in January 1815 George rode back to Pennsylvania on horseback to marry his sweetheart, Sarah Trapp who had just turned 21. The bride and groom came to Ohio on horseback from her home, said to be in Southwest PA, South of Pittsburgh. An Andrew Trapp lived in this area of PA. He had several daughters, also George and Sarah named their second son Andrew, this makes me believe that Andrew Trapp was the father of Sarah.
In 1818 his father deeded to him SE 1/4, Sec. 21 for $5.00. It was most likely a gift for having helped the family move to Ohio, build a pioneer homestead and to clear the farm land. His brother Abraham was also deeded land in 1818, SW 1/4, Sec. 22. In the Federal Land Record of the early 1800's is found thirteen parcels of land purchased by George Hetzler. He acquired over 500 acres in Darke Co., OH near
Bradford.
About 1890, the west half of Abraham's quarter section became the homestead farm of Daniel Webster Hetzler, son of Daniel (above).
